How to get the correct size boot for your horse: Hoof Length - Accurately measure your horse’s hoof LENGTH from buttress to toe, and select the corresponding size from the chart below. The heel buttress is the point on the outer weight-bearing wall where it turns back into the bar (see hoof diagram). The length measurement does not include the heel bulb. Hoof Width - Accurately measure the width of your horse’s hoof at the widest point. From the chart below, select the size closest to that width measurement. The correct Old Mac’s boot size is the LARGEST of the sizes you selected from the charts. It is most often the length size. Sizes determined from hoof length and width will often differ; choose the largest size, NOT the smaller size NOR a size in between. If the LENGTH exceeds the WIDTH by 4 or more sizes, Inserts may be indicated, but FIRST, please double check to ensure that you haven’t included the heel bulbs in the measurement.
