Pendleton has been weaving wool in the Pacific Northwest since 1863, and the National Park series — Glacier Park, Chief Joseph, Yakima Camp — are the patterns that have been on ranch-house couches and horse-trailer benches across the West for generations. Pure merino wool, 5 lbs, 64 by 80 inches. The size matters: small wool throws read as decorative; this reads as useful.

Wool has three properties that synthetics can’t match: it retains warmth when wet (essential in Wyoming weather), it won’t melt if a fire spark lands on it (essential in any camp), and it becomes softer and more character-filled with age rather than wearing out. A Pendleton blanket conditioned twice a year with occasional washing will be in service for the rest of your life.

For the ranch wife gift guide, this came up as the near-unanimous answer when we asked twelve working ranch women what they actually wanted. It’s not subtle and it doesn’t need to be. See the ranch wife’s gift guide for context on what lands versus what gets quietly donated.
