Gard-More creates a fluoropolymer barrier on suede, nubuck, smooth leather, and felt. The fluoropolymer matters: it bonds to the fiber at a molecular level, which means it doesn’t fill the pores of the nap the way silicone-based sprays do. Silicone stays on the surface, attracts dirt, and can cause water spots on suede. The opposite of what you want. Gard-More goes on clear, stays breathable, and lets the leather move without cracking the coating.

Application is two light coats, 12 hours apart. Not one heavy coat. The first coat primes the surface; the second locks in the protection. Hold the can 6 to 9 inches away, sweep across the panel, and let it dry completely before the second pass. If you’re treating rough-out boots for the first time, brush the nap up first with a brass-bristle suede brush, working in one direction, so the spray reaches the base of the fibers and not just the tips. After the second coat dries, re-nap with a light brush stroke.

Bickmore has been making leather care products since 1882. Gard-More sits alongside Bick 4 as one of their core products, but they solve different problems: Bick 4 conditions what’s already dry and cracking; Gard-More protects before the damage happens. For rough-out work boots, suede casual shoes, and any leather hat with a felt or suede brim, apply Gard-More before the first wear and reapply after cleaning or any heavy rain exposure. Full routine in the leather care guide.
